Professional Career

In his professional career he had twenty-nine matches of which twenty-four wins, twelve by ko, three losses while two matches ended draw.

He boxed in the light-heavyweight, and the last four matches in the cruiserweight division.

He turned professional in 1975. His manager was Boris Kramarsich, and his trainer the Italian Nello Barbadoro. After his amateur career, Zoran Čirković, to whom he was the best man, remained with him as his fitness trainer throughout the professional career.

At Marakana in Belgrade, on July 10th, 1976, he became Champion of Europe after he had defeated the Italian boxer Domenico Adinolfi. He defended his title three times.

On January 7th, 1978, in Milan, he became WBC Champion of the World, defeating Miguel Angel Cuello of Argentina.

His first professional match was held on the Summer stage in Opatija on May 31st, 1975. His opponent was the Italian boxer Dante Lazzari, whom he beat by ko in the second round.

The second match was held at the Palalido in Milan on June 20th. He defeated the future French Champion Robert Amory by tko in the fifth round.

On July 12th he boxed his third professional match in Arenzano, Italy. He defeated the German boxer Horst Lang by ko in the first round.

His next opponent was Jose Galvez Vazquez of Spain at Gripe in Split on August 22nd, whom he defeated by unanimous decision.

On September 13th, at the amphiteatre Arena in Pula, he defeated Jose Evaristo Gomez of Argentina by unanimous decision.

On October 6th, at the Dom sportova (House of Sports) in Zagreb, he defeated by tko after the fifth round the USA boxer Johnny Griffin.

On October 30th, at Palalido in Milan, Italy, he beat the USA boxer Karl Zurheide by ko in the first round.

On November 22nd, in Skopje, North Macedonia, his opponent was the USA boxer Billy Freeman,whom he beat by unanimous decision.

On December 26th of the same year, his last match was held in Reggio Emila, Italy. He defeated Onelio Grando of Italy by unanimous decision.

The first match in 1976 was held in Trieste, Italy, on February 6th. His opponent was Macka Foley from the USA, whom he beat by ko in the second round.

On March 6th, in Sydney's Hordern Pavillion, Australia, he boxed against Sentiki Qata from Fiji, whom he defeated by unanimous decision.

After winning Qata, he boxed an unofficial match against the multiple Champion of Australia Tony Mundine, whom he defeated by tko.

On March 20th, at Melbourne's Windsor Regis Hotel, he defeated the future heavyweight Champion of Australia Maile Haumona by unanimous decision.

On May 21st, at the Palasport di San Siro in Milan, he lost a match on points against the future World Champion Matthew Saad Muhammad from the USA.

On July 20th, at the Marakana Stadium in Belgrade, he became Champion of Europe defeating the Italian boxer Domenico Adinolfi by tko in the eleventh round. After the proclamation of the winner, he jumped from the ring into the crowd.

On September 11th, at the Dom sportova (House of Sports) in Zagreb, he defeated by ko in the ninth round the USA boxer Al Bolden.

On October 15th, at the Palasport di San Siro in Milan, he defended the European Title for the first time against the Italian Champion Aldo Traversaro by unanimous decision after fifteen rounds.

On December 3rd, in Trieste, Italy, the match against the USA boxer Matthew Saad Muhammad ended as a draw.

The first match in 1977 was held in the Red Sports hall in Velenje, Slovenia, on March 5th. He beat the multiple Champion of France Christian Poncelet by unanimous decision.

On April 29th, at Morge, Switzerland, he defended, for the second time, the European Title against the Spanish Champion Francois Fiol by unanimous decision after fifteen rounds.

He defended the European Title for the third time against the Scandinavian Champion Harald Skog by unanimous decision after fifteen rounds in in Basel, Switzerland, on July 9th.

On August 21st, at the Youth Sports Hall in Rijeka, he beat the German Champion Leo Kakolewicz by tko in the sixth round.

On Januray 7th, at the Palasport di San Siro in Milan, he became WBC Champion of the World. He beat the undefeated Argentinian boxer Miguel Angel Cuello by ko in the ninth round.

On April 28th, at the Skenderija in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, he beat Tony Greene of USA by tko in the sixth round.

He defended the WBC World Title against the former Champion of the World, the British boxer John Conteh, on points after fifteen rounds held at the Marakana Stadium in Belgrade on June 17th.

On December 2nd, at Marsala's Palazzetto dello Sport, Italy, he lost the WBC World Title to Marvin Johnson of USA by tko in the tenth round. It was his last match in the light-heaywweight division.

At Munich, Germany, on July 28th, 1979, he defeated in the newly–created cruiserweight division the USA boxer Joe Maye by ko in the fifth round.

On September 26th, in Gorizia (Italy), he won in the cruiseweight WBC World Title elimination match against the Australian Champion Tony Mundine by unanimous decision after twelve rounds.

On December 8th, at Gripe in Split, the match for the vacant cruiserweight WBC World Title against the USA boxer Marvin Camel ended as a draw.

At Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, USA, on March 31st, he lost on points after fifteen rounds against Marvin Camel of USA, in the match for the vacant cruiserweight WBC World Title. It was the last match in his career.
