He was proclaimed:

In 2002 the Alley of the Best Croatian Athletes was opened in Jarun – Zagreb, along which there is the memorial plaque of Mate with his photo and the list of his greatest successes.
Since 2006 he has been a WBC Hall of Fame member.
In 2008 Mate Parlov Sports Centre in Pula was named after him while in the same year he was awarded a star on the Croatian Walk of Fame in Opatija.
In 2013 he was posthumously assigned the Order of Duke Branimir with necklace by the President of the Republic of Croatia.
In 2015 a street in Kajzerica in Zagreb was named after him as well as a street in Biograd na Moru. In 2021 a street in Zvezdara in Belgrade was named after him.
Forty years after he had won a gold medal on the Olympic games, the Promenade of Mate Parlov was opened in Fažana on September 10th, 2016. At the beginning of the promenade there is a memorial plaque of Mate with his photo and the list of his greatest successes. The promenade extends along the coast parallel to the alley where he lived.
On the 40th anniversary of his becoming WBC World Champion, a statue in his honour was unveiled in Fažana on January 7th, 2018. The statue is located on the entrance of the Promenade of Mate Parlov.
On November 25th, 2018, he was posthumously assigned Franjo Bučar State Award, the highest sports recognition that the Republic of Croatia gives for extraordinary life achievements.
In 2020 a newly discovered species of underground spider in the caves of Biokovo was named Harpactea mateparlovi.
On May 3th, 2021, a statue in his honour was unveiled in Pula. The statue is located opposite his café “Mate” in Giardini within the Pula City Centre.
